Success Stories - Clinton County

Mommy and Me

Data about the social consequences of teen pregnancies portray an alarming picture. Purdue Extension's Mommy and Me program in Clinton County worked in partnership with COACH kids mentoring to bring resources, skills and knowledge to young mothers under the age of 21 who typically lack the maturity, skills and knowledge to cope with parenting. Forty one different mothers and their children attended one or more of the 9 regular sessions offered for a total of 116 encounters with the mothers and an additional 90 with the children. Self reported data from the participants indicates a large percentage showed knowledge gain and will change their behaviors based on information presented.

Pest and Nutrient Management Plans

In order to receive cost-share funds to install environmentally friendly practices Farmers are required to submit a Pest Management and Nutrient Management Plan to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. In cooperation with the Clinton County Soil & Water Conservation District, Clinton County Extension has been helping producers write these plans. Since the fall of 2007 11 Pest Management Plans and 10 Nutrient Management Plans have been written, encompassing 10,830.7 acres. An additional four plans, encompassing 2,545 acres, are in the process of being written. Producers have received over $170,000 in cost-share funding to assist them with installing or adopting environmentally friendly agricultural practices. In addition, by not utilizing a Technical Service Provider, approximately $30,000 additional dollars have been available to be used for cost-sharing practices, rather than paying someone to write these plans.
