Subject:                          HORT ALERT:  The passing of Jack Wade

It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of Jack Wade.  Jack was the County Agent for Agriculture in Vanderburgh County when I arrived in 1986.  Jack was my mentor, and taught me “the ropes” of surviving in Purdue Extension.  He also taught me to how to put in a new floor (from the frame up!) when I first bought my house.  He was a true gentleman, with a  kind heart and a wicked sense of humor.  I will miss him terribly.

Jack enhanced the working relationship of USDA agencies in southwest Indiana and the understanding of USDA programs serving farm operators and owners. The media looked to Jack as the spokesman for producer and consumer agriculture in the tri-state area. Jack recognized the importance of people working together to improve their communities and facilitated this process. In Vanderburgh County he was a leader of land use and transportation planning and of leadership development.
