2019 Marion County Fair Volunteer Sign-UP

We need adult and youth volunteers to help with many aspects of the Marion County Fair in order to make it a success. Please sign up to help out with clean up, project check in and judging, events, and building watchers. This page will be updated as more volunteer opportunities become available. Note that on Project Check-in and Project Judging days, depending on your assignment and how thing progress we may be finished a little earlier or later than times shown. If you need to leave early let us know. Thank you for your help in advance!

2019 Marion County Fair Preparation Volunteers

The times listed are for the entire activity. Volunteers may request flexible shifts if necessary. 

-FOODS CONFERENCE JUDGING: Volunteers needed to help with check in & judging assistant 6/14/18 4-7 PM

-PROJECT CLEAN SWEEP (building clean-up day): Volunteers needed to help clean and set up: 4-H Building, Arts & Crafts Building, and the Animal Barns

Meal: Pizza lunch provided. Let us know if you have dietary restrictions. 6/15/18 9 AM-3 PM

-PROJECT CHECK IN: Volunteers needed to help check in projects and place in display locations 6/18/18 3:30-7:30 PM

-PROJECT JUDGING: Assist judges and help set up for display.  6/19/18 3:30-7:30 PM

Meal: Deli meat & cheese tray, sandwich breads, chips, dessert, beverages. Let us know if you have dietary restrictions.

2019 Marion County Fair Building Hosts

Greetings 4-H Families and Friends!  BUILDING HOSTS are needed in the 4-H Arts & Crafts Building, 4-H Building (on hill), and Poultry Building when they are open.  We also have a few special events needing volunteers.  4-H depends on many helping hands to make our events and exhibits run smoothly, so please help fill our schedule.  Sign up for each time slot you plan to stay for (i.e. if staying noon-4, sign up for both 'noon-2' & '2-4' slots).

If you are signing up people other than yourself, please include the actual worker's name as a 'comment' to clarify who will be working the shift.

After selecting the time slot you wish to work (or entering an alternate name, etc.), scroll to bottom of page to 'submit/accept' for it to actually appear on schedule.  By providing your email address, a reminder will be sent to you before your volunteer date.

Please arrive at the Fairgrounds 15-20 minutes before your shift begins to allow time to park and walk to the 4-H building. 4-H Families are encouraged to enter the grounds at Gate 5 off Fisher Road to park near their assigned building.

4-H Exhibit Hall hosts should report to the 4-H Building (on the hill) to check in and receive your building assignment, Poultry volunteers report to the Poultry Barn.  A guideline for Building Hosts/watchers will be available at the Host table.

POULTRY BARN ATTENDANTS are needed in the Poultry Barn when it is open: W-Th 5-9 pm, F 5-10 pm, Sat noon-5 pm.  (4-H Poultry check-in is 5-7 pm June 16 for the Open Show and 5-7 pm June 20. No Attendants will be needed in this building during check-in, the show or after checkout on June 23.)

4-H POULTRY BARN ATTENDANTS' GUIDELINES

Please arrive at the Fairgrounds 10-15 minutes before your shift begins to allow time to park and walk to the building.

The Fair Committee would like all 4-H Poultry Attendants to:

1. Feed and water the 4-H Poultry exhibits

2. Collect eggs

3. Keep barn clean

4. Manage problems with birds

         a. Watch that Fair visitors don’t open cages

         b. Remind public to wash hands on leaving building, etc.

5. Maintain contact with 4-H members, etc.)

6. Answer questions about 4-H & Poultry if you know the answers, or find a Supervisor or Extension Educator. Be able to share information regarding brochures, materials, etc. (or be able to tell the guest where to find this information).

7. Wear their 4-H or Poultry Volunteer T-shirts and name tags or have their name on their t-shirts at all times.

    8. Tell barn visitors about ongoing activities such as egg hatching/chicks, demonstrations/talks, contests, etc.
