Welcome Katje! New CD Educator joins Tippecanoe County Purdue Extension

Reminders and alerts for Purdue Extension CD educators.

Katje Armentrout grew up in a small, rural community in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula – right in the middle of the mitt! She attended Central Michigan University to receive both her Bachelor of Fine Arts (with a dual concentration in Fiber Arts and Sculpture) and Master of Arts in Humanities degrees. Upon moving to Tippecanoe County, she earned her Ph.D. in American Studies from Purdue University. Her dissertation and current research focus on agricultural history, farmers markets and food studies, rural community development, and environmental sustainability.

Developing interests in traditional and sustainable lifestyle practices from a young age, Katje was raised to respect farmers and the hard work required to thrive in agricultural environments. She is excited about the opportunity of working with Purdue University Extension and hopes to build relationships with local food producers and consumers in Tippecanoe County, create better public spaces to highlight food resources, as well as establish a greater number of community and public gardens to reduce food insecurity among vulnerable populations.

In her spare time, Katje enjoys cooking and baking, reading books, traveling, and jigsaw puzzles.
