If you hold a license with the Egg Board, you may already know this information. For those who are consumers of farm fresh eggs or have not received your license yet, you’ll be interested to hear the State Egg Board has voted to amend rule 370 IAC 1-3-2 to allow eggs to be labeled with an “Expiration” or “Use By” date for no more than forty-five (45) days past the date of pack. This is an increase from thirty days as seen in the past. Please also note the law has changed to state all packaging must be new consumer containers for eggs in retail. Farmers Market retail sales directly to an end consumer has been exempt from this requirement at this time. Please be sure all packaging is cleaned before reuse by you and that your label(s) is clearly displayed on the packaging. For more information, please visit www.ansc.purdue.edu/ISEB.
