Inspire Kids To Do!

What IS 4-H?

4-H is a hands-on approach to learning new and exciting things all while making new friends.  Youth learn important life skills through completing and exhibiting 4-H projects and by attending club meetings, camps, workshops and so much more!
4-H is the youth program of Purdue University's Cooperative Extension Service.  Our mission is the education of Indiana citizens through application of the Land Grant University research and knowledge base for the benefit of agriculture, youth families, and communities.  Over 500 young people from Warrick County were club members last year and you can be one too!

Mini 4-H Non-Competitive Policy: Mini 4-H is a program designed to encourage positive development of children, Kindergarten through second grade.  The goal of Mini 4-H is to help young children explore friendships outside the family; explore the way in which things work; practice both small and large muscle control; and think about the ways people work together on projects.

The NON-COMPETITIVE learning environment for Mini 4-H includes:

  • Planned learning activities in which children are invited to be active and explore materials and ideas without the pressure of completing a specific product or exhibit.
  • Low adult/leader to child ratio that allows time for adults/leaders to provide individual, positive encouragement and assistance.
  • Simple, interesting activities that are fun.
  • Encouragement of children to participate in a group activity by sharing and/or displaying their activity projects.
  • Rewards that are identical and/or ribbons of the same color for everyone.

DO NOT JUDGE projects, but instead discuss them with the child.

NOTE: Purdue University and the Indiana 4-H Youth Development Program do not support, endorse, or encourage 4-H programming for children prior to kindergarten.  4-H Youth Development Extension staff members and 4-H Volunteers may not offer, or encourage others to offer, programming for children prior to kindergarten.

Each member enrolled in Mini 4-H may exhibit ONE project from the following: Woodworking, Foods, Art and Crafts, Flowers, Collections, or Farm Animals.  The 4-Her will turn in his/her project at the Warrick County 4-H Center on the Sunday before fair week and be picked up the Sunday following fair week.  During project check-in, the 4-H’er will speak with a judge about how they completed their project and get compliments and suggestions on their scorecard.  Mini 4-H projects will be displayed at the Warrick County 4-H Fair.  Each 4-H’er will receive a ribbon at the end of fair week when projects are checked-out.  You must exhibit a different project each year.

General Poster Requirements:

All exhibits in poster form must be mounted on plywood or heavy cardboard to add stiffness for exhibiting.  The poster must not bend.  The poster must be covered with clear plastic to protect the exhibit.  The overall size must be 22” x 28” and displayed horizontally.  Posters may be any color.  Plastic poster sleeves are available for purchase at the Warrick County Extension Office.
